This morning my yoga teacher told us we were going to embark on half a Yoga Mala.
A Yoga Mala is the practice of 108 sun salutations. It was something I had heard about, but never considered doing. Personally, I tend to find repetitive sun salutations to be boring. Today, however, I decided to embrace the repetition and allow myself to get lost in the breath, and simply poor myself into the practice.
It became one of the most beneficial and amazing yoga classes I have ever been to. I could not think about anything other than the energy pouring into me with each inhale, and out of me with each exhale. It was the first time in my ten years of practicing yoga that I have truly been able to really meditate, to totally lose myself in the beauty of the breath.
It was the first time in my entire life that I have ever been able to quiet my mind.
Needless to say, today I really understood what it means to practice yoga. It is not just something we merely do. It is something we must also live.
